I'm interested in monitoring the run time of my furnace.  I can easily bring in a signal which goes on and off with the furnace.  I'd like to have a way of accumulating the run time of the furnace.

I could set up an Oscillator, And its output with an oscillator, and run the output to an Event Counter.  The count output of the Event Counter could represent the accumulated on time.  This seems a bit crude.  Is there a better way?

If you want to only use devices from our standard Device library, that's probably as good a way as any.  A more elegant way to make an accumulation timer would be to make a Virtual Device.  If after reading the http://www.catalinac...gVirtualDevices section, you feel comfortable coding your own Virtual Device, that would be the best way way to make your timer.

If you like, we can work offline with you and build you a device that satisfies your needs.

Your timer idea is a good one and seems like one other people could use.  We'll put an accumulation timer into our next release.
