brett
I've got my VW system running on my home network. My network is running behind a firewall. Is there a secure way I can operate my system from the public internet?
Felix
Yes there is. See: http://www.catalinacomputing.com/docs/FAQ The FAQ labelled "I've got a running system I'm controlling ....." has your answer. If you decide you want to use the SSH solution, you may want to use dynamic DNS (DDNS) as well. That way, you can assign a name to your system. Before exposing your system to the internet, make sure your user names and passwords aren't easy to guess. For example, if you are using a Raspberry Pi as your host, be sure to change the password of the "pi" account to something other than "raspberry".
